What Are You Afraid Of?

No matter how strong or confident we may appear to be we all have something that scares us. Be it as simple as turning on your little night light in the bedroom because you are afraid to sleep in total darkness (like me) or major relevant insecurities of the future with the threat of deadly viruses, the recurrence of school shootings and a host of other devastating world events.

Being afraid in itself is not neccessarily a bad thing. You wouldn't stick you hand in a burning flame or stand in front of a moving bus now would you? No, our fears along with common sense protects us from hurt, harm and danger. In contrast when we let our fears take control of our lives to the point of placing invisible bars around us, this is the time that fear becomes our enemy. Fear can cripple us by taking away the ability to live a productive, happy and whole life. There is nothing wrong with being afraid, especially for the movies buffs who would be amiss without the horror films. Or for those of us who love the spell bounding reads of Stephen King and so many others authors like him who raises the beat of our hearts.

Being afraid is a part of life like any other emotion we have. It is good to be afraid sometimes so long as we don't allow our fears to dictate how we live our lives.

Joshua 1:9

"Have I not commanded you? Be Strong and courageous . Do not be frighten, and do not be dismayed for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."
